Are you a new mom? Facing Postpartum Depression is more common than you think and so is postpartum hair loss

New mom's are so busy adjusting to new baby life, that sometimes we can forget to take care of ourselves. It's hard to find the time for yourself, and when you do, the last thing you may want to do is deal with even brushing your own hair. New moms may also find that no matter how gorgeous their hair was before baby, it's never the same afterwards. Hormones, stress, lack of sleep, and maybe just getting older can cause you to lose hair. Cashmere Hair owner Melissa Koren is a new mom of a 6 month old baby girl and she has faced some difficult Postpartum Depression along with her own hair loss issues. Cashmere Hair is not just for celebrities and models, it's for real women. Cashmere Hair clip-in extensions help women with everything from insecurities to diseases, cancer, stress and even PPD. Here's her story:

"Becoming a first time mom is the hardest challenge & most rewarding challenge I ever had to face. There are a lot of things to prepare for & a lot things you will never know how to prepare for. I gave birth to my beautiful baby named Elly on 11-11-15. This day changed my life from here forward. Elly was born 2 1/2 weeks early which resulted with some small health issues. Throughout this tough journey of finding comfort for Elly I still faced a hardship myself with Postpartum Depression. The delivery alone was enough to push me into a dark hole. Let's just say things didn't go so smoothly. postpartum From there I struggled with breastfeeding for 3 continuous weeks. It was very hard to accept the fact that I was not going to be breast feeding my baby. These are just a few examples of what contributed to my depression & anxiety. It's already tough being a new mom & adjusting to your new lifestyle let alone all of your hormone changes.

I battled Postpartum Depression & PPA for 5 long months. During this time I wasn't taking care of myself like I should have been. My weight dropped tremendously & I was always stressed out. A lot of things can result from stress as we know. Most importantly, I changed my bad health issues by recovering at a daily hospital that catered to women with postnatal.

A little bit about my background
I have worked in the hair industry for the past 15 years. My business partner & I also created a well known hair extension company. I knew a good set of hair when I saw one.  I was quite proud of keeping my long hair nice & healthy.
As you may know a lot of hairstylist change their hair color often. Not me! I was the complete opposite. I always tried to keep my hair at its best quality & always looking good. My hair is the one thing I can always maintain even during the rough journey of Postpartum Depression. It made me feel good inside to do my hair each day.
At first I didn't see much of a difference in my hair as I heard from other new moms about extensive hair loss that can occur. I thought that was the one thing I got lucky with since odds worked against me on other more important things. Boy was I wrong!!! At my 5 months marked the start of my hair thinning more & more.

So now I am a new mom with anxiety, depression, a bunch of other "new mom" issues AND hair that is falling out!
Long story short, I finally made huge progress with overcoming Postpartum Depression/PPA. If there was only one wish I could have after being a new mom it would be to fight the Postpartum  Depression so I can be the best mom for my little newborn. My mind & health is a lot more important to me than any physical attribute so I am beyond thankful for being healed. It wasn't a easy journey or a easy 5 months but with help from others, my mom & my treatment center, I can definitely proudly say I am cured.
My hormones are balancing out & things are moving forward. Yes, I still have the issue with my hair shedding but I do know it will pass.
I started drinking more water than I was initially intaking. I made a wise decision not to stress about it since it's just hair & I can always wear my Cashmere Hair extensions. (I wear the Beverly Hills Brunette shade)
I cannot express enough how powerful the mind can be during a life changing time like this.
It truly baffles my mind of the unawareness of Postpartum  Depression. PPD is not openly embraced in our culture which makes the healing process even harder.
I am here to say there is help out there. We may have to search for it but it's there & we just have to be open with our feelings. The first step to any struggle is self awareness. We may not know what to look for during a struggle like this but even if we have the slightest doubt within ourself that's enough to seek help."    -Melissa Koren, Owner & Creator Cashmere Hair®
