10 Ways To Get Out Of The Door Quicker In The Mornings

| by Eriselda

We all struggle with that morning routine. Why is it so hard to wake up in the morning no matter what time you went to bed the night before? Here are some reasons why we have trouble waking up:

  • Genetics
  • Phase Delay ( when the body adjusts to life demands and not the Natural Circadian Rhythm)
  • Sleep Quality ( if we don’t sleep well, toss and turn then it will definitely affect our mornings)

Everyone is different and we need between 7-9 hours of sleep each night. If we get enough quality sleep we should not need to hit that snooze button. Going to bed around the same time and waking up at the same it will make a huge difference. We are programmed to think that our morning should be hectic and chaotic. But if we planned ahead it shouldn’t be that way at all.

A daily practice that I have been following is to think of myself as a parachute. The moment I open my eyes I count backwards from 5.  As soon as you reach 1 push yourself to move. It sounds silly but it really works for me, try it! I have come up with 10 different ways to get out of the door quicker. The European Journal of Social Psychology  shows that it takes 66 days to form a habit. Hopefully you will follow these tips for 66 days so they can be part of your everyday life.

Prepare The Night Before

The less choices we need to make in the morning the more time we will have. Prepare your breakfast and lunch the night before. If you work out, make sure you have your gym bag packed and ready to go. I like to place mine in the car the night before so I won’t have any excuses not to go to the gym.

Depart With Your Phone Before 9 P.M

We are so addicted to technology and slaves to social media. It’s very easy to get lost scrolling through our Instagram or answering 50 emails a day. Every night after dinner leave your phone at a place where is out of your reach in the morning. This will give you more time in the morning to focus on other things and maybe you will make some time for meditation or even reading instead of checking your phone.

Pack Your Lunch

This is so important to make your mornings a breeze. Pack your lunch the night before. Carve out some time on Sundays to meal prep and cook in batches. Cook a pot of rice, beans or chickpeas so you can easily create a healthy meal. You can add chickpeas to you favorite salads or make a quick bean burrito.

Change Your Alarm Sound

Waking up to a sound which either scares the life out of you or puts you in a horrible mood is no way to start the day. Change your alarm tune to your favorite song that as soon as you hear you just want to dance and jump up and down. Not only it will motivate you to get out of bed it will put you in a good mood for the rest of the day.

Drink Water When You Wake Up

Drinking water when you wake up not only will give you a burst of energy but also quickly rehydrate your body. When you are not hydrated your brain operates on less fuel. Keep a bottle on your nightstand to have handy when you wake up in the morning.

Skip A Shampoo

After an evening shower blow dry and style your hair so it will still be fresh and clean for the next day. My new favorite tool is the new Dyson blow drier. It dries my hair much faster and it’s less damaging than other blow driers. If you don’t feel like doing the whole lather, rinse and repeat there is also dry shampoo. It’s been a savior for someone like me who has super oily hair.

The Ultimate Duo

Foundation and concealer, two products I cannot leave without. Since I don’t have time to spend 1 hour in the morning to apply a full face of make up, these two products make me look human. I apply foundation and concealer in the mornings and add the remaining make up steps at work such as blush, mascara and eyeliner. Which one to apply first? For me it varies, If I am using a powdered foundation I apply concealer first. If I use liquid foundation I apply my foundation first then my concealer.

Whip Up The Ponytail

There comes a time especially when you have kids when you just don’t have time to wash your hair the night before, the morning of…you just don’t have time. In this scenario pulling your hair back in a ponytail can be a life saver. Yes ponytails can look really cute when you have long thick hair. What about the rest of us who weren’t blessed with that kind of hair? A safe alternative is using Clip In Wrap Ponytails. It won’t damage your hair and is super easy to apply.

Ironing? Nobody Got Time For That!

Is Ironing even a thing? You risk of burning your hands, wrestling with your iron board and it takes so much time! Shut out to the person who invented garment   steamers. They are so easy to use and it only takes a few minutes to achieve wrinkle free results. There are so many models to pick from but I prefer the handheld steamers.

 Station Your Necessities

Creating a space for your necessities like keys, phone, charger, sunglasses can save you so much time in the morning. Put a tray in your foyer or drop zone or at a table close to the main door. This way you always know where they will be and won’t stress looking for them in the morning.
